Dalee Ella
Hi, I'm Dalee Ella and I am all about exploring interconnection, relationship and land based relating through my intricate lino print and illustration work.
My deepest hope is that I can use my skills to make art that draws us back to our roots of nature and the core magic of being human within ourselves and our communities.

Artist Bio

My art is a celebration of the living growing world. An exploration of the journey back to interconnection and land as family.
Being raised on magical Djabuguy county in Far north QLD, Australia, with a mixture of colonial experience, indigenous cultural exposure and a deep love of 'nature' my work simultaneously reflects the beauty I see and feel in my relationships with life.
I hold hope in my heart for us as humans to come back to the land as family, to listen to the elders and to actively create a better way forward.
As a seeker and explorer of deep relationships, to place, to people and to process, I have learnt that I need my art practice to focus my wild brain and centre myself in meaning and purpose.
After years of honouring my natural inherent energy to create, paired with lots of hard work as a mother, a homesteader and a grower, I see that I am now surrounded by plants, systems, knowledge, people, materials and relationships that not only enable me to continue to create in these ways, but that are all as much a part of what I create as I am.
Like some kind of conduit of connection, art is literally keeping my feet on the rich soil ground and my head in the wonder and awe of life and of the world.

How our wearable art came to be
Dalee and Clare have been working together one way or another for 8 years. Originally Dalee hand block printed her lino prints onto dresses for Clare's then label, Gwyllem.
In 2023 we boldly decided to start our own wearable art label under Dalee's name, which was an immediate hit.
How our wearable art came to be
It was a big, exciting, beautiful and sometimes intense ride, as we embarked on the massive task of starting a business partnership with all the ethical credentials, right at the moment our bodies began to change with age and perimenopausal symptoms unexpectantly began to derail our best laid plans.
How our wearable art came to be
We both absolutely loved what we created, but we knew the structure of our beautiful biz we'd created wasn't working for our lives. Dalee needed to refocus on her family and art practice and Clarey needed the independence to do her thing.
So we made the difficult but ultimately positive decision to move our label from a partnership back to a collaboration.
Dalee now creates the art for the wearables, photographs the collections and collaborates with Clarey on the print designs. While Clare continues to design the garments, run the clothing business and give time to her second label, Storyline.
How our wearable art came to be
We are so immensely proud of ourselves for navigating such a potentially destructive period of time in our lives, with support, deep care and understanding for what each of us was going through.
The experience has only enriched and deepened our connection and we are so excited to continue on this next phase of our creative collaboration.
